The unique design of using a one piece contour pad has two major purposes: (#1) it is one solid piece, so this means you get the maximum support where you need it, and it doesn't tend to split or shift across the withers. (#2) it doesn't have a tendency to come apart which gives you a longer life of your pad. High quality leather strengthens the withers and back. The same leather is also used for the wear leathers.
